About the Event

Margaret Willson, currently an affiliate associate professor with the Departments of Anthropology and Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington, and a Senior Associate Scientist at the Stafansson Arctic Institute in Iceland, will be our program speaker at our March 19th Membership Meeting. Dr. Willson, who worked at sea herself when she was younger, has been conducting research with seawomen in Iceland for several years, resulting in her book Seawomen of Iceland: Survival on the Edge (University of Washington Press 2016). Her newest book, Woman, Captain, Rebel: The Extraordinary true Story of an Icelandic Sea Captain (Sourcebooks), will be released in 2023.  This new book was inspired by, and continues the story of, Seawomen.

If you are not yet a member of our Lodge but would like to participate in this zoomed meeting and cultural program, please email us at whidbeyislandnordiclodge@gmail.com no later than Friday, March 18th. A link to the program will be provided to you early Saturday morning.
