The Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge hopes to see you there!
In keeping with some strong Scandinavian traditions — in particular, outdoor activities and trolls, Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge members are sponsoring a 5K Troll Stroll on Saturday, August 25th, at the Nordic Hall, just south of Coupeville.
As you may know, Scandinavians love getting outdoors. You’ll find them out there every day of the year – walking, skiing, boating or just plain strolling. They refer to this love of outdoor activity as friluftsliv, which literally translates as “open or free-air living” and was popularized in the 1850s by the Norwegian playwright and poet, Henrik Ibsen, who used the term to describe the value of spending time in remote locations for spiritual and physical well-being. Today the word is used to broadly describe the connection to nature that is so strong in all Scandinavian cultures.
Scandinavians also love their trolls! Members of the Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge would like to think that when they ARE out & about enjoying nature, they might also encounter trolls. There is, after all, a well-known troll trail in Norway! (Mt Floyen, Bergen)
The August 25th Troll Stroll will begin at 9:00 a.m. The top three participants in each age group will be awarded ribbons. At the finish line all will enjoy free heart waffles.
Come join in on this fun run/walk/stroll ! $10.00 adult / $5:00 child (10 & under) Dogs are free. (They must be kept on a leash and cleaned-up after). Strollers are OK. A portion of the proceeds will go to various local charities supported by Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge.
