Lodge President-Elect Barb Wilson enjoying her pancake breakfast
A delicious pancake breakfast preceding the November meeting of the Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge was the perfect ‘flavor’ to add to a meeting otherwise devoted to nominating and selecting Lodge officers for 2014-2015! Swedish pancakes, fresh berries, sausage, juice & coffee – what a feast! Individuals elected at this meeting – Barb Wilson, President, Ingri Johnson, VP, Jeannene W, Treasurer, and Emilly MacCormick, Secretary – will be installed at the January Lodge meeting.
At the January meeting the Lodge’s President of the Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge, Pete Berg will be installed as President for 2012, Dick Johnson as Vice President, Emilly MacCormick as Secretary, and Liz Berg as Treasurer. Numerous other lodge members will be recognized as Chairpersons for the various other teams that were established in November to plan and implement social, cultural, operational, outreach and communications activities for the Lodge. Former Lodge President Barbara Wilson will officiate.
Lodge Members will also take pause at this meeting to recognize the national organization under which it is chartered – The Sons of Norway – by viewing the film Fram: Forward into the future: Celebrating 100 years of District 2 Sons of Norway 1910-2010.
The Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge is unusual amongst Sons of Norway Lodges in that it focuses on, as its name suggests, Nordic culture and tradition celebrating all Nordic nations.
Challenged to step up and into the future their new Lodge home will make possible for them, 24 Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge members formed six planning teams at their general meeting on Saturday, November 19th. Elected to the 2012 Administrative Team that will guide the other five teams were: Pete Berg, President, Dick Johnson, Vice President, Liz Berg, Treasurer, and Emilly MacCormick, Secretary.
The Communications, Cultural, Operations, Outreach, and Social Planning teams will begin meeting soon to start mapping out and fine-tuning strategies and activities that will help Lodge members achieve the long-range vision they see for themselves in preserving Nordic heritage here on Whidbey Island.
This team approach to Lodge organization for 2012 was chosen to optimize opportunities for members to play a role in Lodge planning as well as to make the Lodge more cohesive and inclusive.
Presiding at the January 15th Lodge meeting to officially install Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge officers for 2011 was Ted Fosberg, Past International President of the Sons of Norway.
The line-up looks a little different this year; Dick Johnson is again Nordic Lodge President for 2011, and Sid Iverson the Treasurer, but Olof Sander takes over as Lodge Vice President for 2011, Pete Berg as Counselor, and Emilly McCormick as Lodge Secretary. Emilly has also assumed the Director position of the new Cultural Committee. Sid Iverson and Pete Berg will also continue in their positions as Trustee, as will Cherie Iverson.
Assuming new support positions for 2011 are: Maurice Aasland and Les McCormick, as Greeters. Continuing in last year’s support positions are: Maurice Aasland, Marshal; Pete Berg, Sports Director; Joan Gerteis, Publicity Director; Joy Iverson, Newsletter Editor; Dick Johnson, Program Coordinator & Historian; Ingri Johnson, Social Director; Emilly & Les McCormick, Sunshine Committee; Chuck Stone, Greeter.
Liz Berg was Acting Marshall for this Installation of Officers.
