Author to give talk about an almost forgotten piece of history

LHuntOn March 6th, Linda Lawrence Hunt,  Ph.D. , author of Bold Spirit: Helga Estby’s Forgotten Walk Across Victorian America, will be presenting this story  about the incredible walk from Spokane to New York City in 1896 made by  Norwegian immigrants Helga Estby & her daughter Clara to save their family farm, and her own journey in uncovering this almost forgotten important piece of history.

Bold Spirit is based on Hunt’s dissertation and was first published in 2003 by the University of Idaho Press and then by Anchor Books in 2005. It has been honored with the 2004 Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award, the Willa Cather Literary Award, and the Washington State Book Award.

This program has been arranged for by the Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge and the Coupeville Public Library.

7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 6th.  Nordic Hall,  63 Jacobs Rd., Coupeville.  The Jacobs Road  is a right turn off Highway 20 about one mile south of  the intersection of Highway 20 & Main in Coupeville.
